The Unfit Dad
So you’ve made it this far. You’ve subscribed to the The Unfit Dad or landed on my page somehow (thank you) and now you’re wondering, what’s next? What is this all about? Who is The Unfit Dad? All great questions, so why don’t we just jump right in?
My name is Marquis and I’m a dad of one-year-old twin boys and like you, I’m still trying to figure out this whole parenting thing. Will we ever get there? I’ll keep you posted. As you may already know, each and every day is faced with new challenges and learnings. When we first brought our boys home there was this constant fear that seemed to grip me. Thoughts like, “Am I going to be good enough for them?” and “What do I do if…” were constants running around my subconscious.
Between the endless diaper changes and late night feedings I got to thinking, I can’t be the only one who has ever had these thoughts and (on top of that), where are all the advice columns offering support to new dads? This is hard! I’ve never done this before and yet here we are. I’m a dad now and thus, The Unfit Dad was (re)born.
I ended up taking 7 months off of work to be at home with my wife (Thalita – Like “holy Toledo” but with an ‘a’ at the end- check out her blog when you get a chance) and our boys. If I could have, I would have taken more time because as everyone kept reminding us, “they grow up so fast”. Thalita is still on Mat leave and is killing this motherhood thing. Our boys adore her and she has taken to the role so well. What I want this blog to be is a support to those guys that are on board but maybe don’t have a clue what do to, have never changed a diaper before, are nervous about their new role as a father and giver of life (sorry if that sounded cheesy…you’re still reading so it couldn’t have been that bad).
I’m here in your corner cheering you on, letting you know you’re doing great and you’re appreciated! You know it’s not going to be easy and you can’t wait to get your hands dirty. My goal is to encourage all you dads out there and provide an outlet for you to voice concerns, questions, opinions and more. The Unfit Dad (a play on words) is for the guys that are doing their best and want to be better, for themselves, for their partner and for their children. We’re all in this together. I’ll be sharing tips, advice, product reviews and swapping stories from the trenches. I hope you’re as excited as I am for this.
See you in there!
